To mark Scottish Dyslexia Awareness week, our Student Services team chat to us about their experiences of helping students at Perth College UHI and give us a run down on the services and products that are available to help a student’s learner journey.

In this week’s blog, we meet a Business and Management student who returned to education - alongside working a professional job – to gain new knowledge and skills that could be implemented to drive forward her future career.

When Serena finished school, she was unsure what direction she wanted her life to take. However, after gaining some life experience working for the NHS, she found her calling in life. She shares her story with us.

Studying at Perth College UHI gives you the perfect opportunity towards securing a successful future and former Sport and Fitness student, Iain Mackenzie, is proof of that. Having started at NC level, Iain then went on to graduate with a First-Class Honours degree and is now successfully working in his chosen career. He shares his journey with us.

We are also committed to continually upskilling our staff, to benefit our students and their learning experience. Hospitality and Professional Cookery Lecturer, Shirley Simpson, gained some valuable industry experience from Cardo restaurant in Perth, and she tells us how she got on.

Hear Hope’s motivating journey of progressing from a school transition course, to an HND, and her special friendship with fellow student, Chelsea

After experiencing some difficulties in her time at school, Chelsea came to Perth College UHI for a fresh start. Here she was able to flourish in confidence and, as a result, has made great strides in progressing her education.

“Don’t be afraid to try, or apply, for any course. The lecturers always try their best to guide you and help. There’s never a perfect time to start something, but it’s never too late.”

At Perth College UHI, we offer great progression opportunities. Students can start from entry-level programmes, where no previous qualifications are required, and work their way up - with many courses going right up to honours degree level. This is exactly what this week’s Student Spotlight, did. Megan tells us her story:

Winfrida came to Scotland in 2018, as she wanted to fulfil her passion for leadership. She shares her progression story at Perth College UHI, through hard work, drive and dedication, and also talks to us about her plans for the future.

Our BSc (Hons) Audio Engineering is designed by industry professionals, and this skills-led honours degree aims to help graduates progress to the forefront of the sector and have sustainable and rewarding careers. We caught up with a third-year student, to hear how he has found studying at Perth College UHI.

“I never thought I would make it to university, as my grades at school weren’t the best, but my hard work and determination were enough for me.” This week we chat to Sport and Fitness student, Rebeka, to hear how her career plans changed due to the pandemic - and why she went on to follow her passion for sports, instead.
