Student Spotlight - Chelsea Brown
βSomething I find quite memorable; is how much I have grown as a person and how much confidence I now have, compared to when I began.β
After experiencing some difficulties in her time at school, Chelsea came to Perth College UHI for a fresh start. Here she was able to flourish in confidence and, as a result, has made great strides in progressing her education. She tells us her story π
What is your name, and where are you from?
My name is Chelsea Brown, and I am from Perth.
What course are you studying at Perth College UHI, and what year are you currently in?
I have just completed my HNC Administration and Information Technology course, and I am going on to do my HND. Before this, I did my NQ Administration course and I have also done Next Steps 2 Learning and Moving On.
What were you doing before you came to college?
Before college, I was completing schoolwork via an alternative route due to negative High School experiences.
Why did you decide to pick this course?
I chose this specific course, as it is something that I have always been interested in and it is something I can see myself doing as a job.
What is your favourite thing about the course?
My favourite thing about my HNC, was that a lot of the work was at our own pace for the most part.
Have you made new friends, on your course? Has their support helped you, during your time at Perth College UHI?
I have made some new friends. I met one of my best friends during my NQ Admin course, and we have completed both the NQ and the HNC together. Having her to rely on made the course a lot more manageable.
During the pandemic, how did the style of teaching change? Were your lecturers supportive during this time?
During the pandemic, our NQ course went from in-person teaching to all virtual almost completely overnight β however, the HNC was all online from start to finish. The lecturers were extremely helpful and understanding, especially in the beginning when everyone was still adjusting.
Has there been any standout/memorable moments from your course?
Something I find quite memorable; is how much I have grown as a person and how much confidence I now have, compared to when I began.
Any other achievements you have gained on your journey?
One achievement I am proud of is going from Moving On and ending up where I am now, I honestly didnβt think I would get this far.
What do you like about the campus/facilities?
Although I have not been on the campus during this course, when I was physically at college, I enjoyed sitting in both the Goodlyburn and Brahan building cafeteria.
Have you enjoyed studying at Perth College UHI?
Overall I would say that I have greatly enjoyed my experience studying at Perth College UHI.
Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of college?
Outside of college, I like to read and watch films.
What are your plans, for after you finish your course?
My plans right now are to go on to the HND and, after that, to go into the workplace.
And finally, what advice would you give to someone thinking about studying at Perth College UHI?
One piece of advice I would give someone starting college is to look around before your classes start, especially after you get your timetable, and ask lecturers and staff questions.
