We celebrate our 2021 Graduates!💜
🎓 This week is dedicated to celebrating our 2021 graduates across the #ThinkUHI partnership 🎓 We are so proud of their achievements, during what was an incredibly challenging year.
We didn’t want to miss out on being a part of their special day, so we asked them to share their ‘at home’ celebrations and they didn’t disappoint ❤️
Meet some of our 2021 graduates 🎓👇
Evelyn Caldwell – BA Childhood Practice
"I had a fantastic day celebrating the end of 4 years studying part-time, while also carrying out my full-time job. It was worth it though to finally have that BA with Distinction in Childhood Practice degree certificate in my hands. I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience studying with UHI and I can't thank all of the tutors enough for their support and encouragement. Here are a few of the photos taken with my husband, children and grandchildren."
Katie Guthrie – BA Music Business
“I really enjoyed studying at Perth College UHI. Getting a degree meant the world to me as, at one point, I wasn't even sure I would get one! I was so excited to get my certificate and see I achieved a distinction! I'd like to thank the lecturers who were supportive throughout and my family who were behind me every step of the way. I'm hoping to get a job in the music industry!”
Grant Irvine – BA (Hons) Popular Music
"I’d like to thank the wonderful staff and my classmates for the support."
Denny Pereira – HND Professional Cookery
“It felt amazing to receive my graduation certificate. That sense of accomplishment of one more stage on my career, the feeling that the two years of hard work, resilience and commitment paid off.
“I had such phenomenal first two years. I was afraid of returning to Higher Education full time, as a mature student, but I enjoyed it throughout. From the welcome of the whole Perth College UHI; the quality of the course; the commitment of the lecturers; the support staff; and the best HNC and HNC classmates I could ever ask for.
“If I am going to list everyone here, we will need a few pages! Let's have a go and try not to forget anyone. First, my classmates: without them I would not have had a class or a course to go to. Then my PAT's Rhona and Shirley, our phenomenal course leader Gemma, and all of our lecturers. My work - Cardo Restaurant - for being so flexible and supportive of my studies. The counselling team at the College who were there for me when my anxiety kicked in during the lockdown. Fiona Leslie of the Development Trust for organising our scholarships. The team at the library for the several academic workshops delivered. The customers who visited us in the training restaurant to support our studies. Sam Monie for being such an outstanding student supporter. The list goes on and on.
“I’m absolutely looking forward to progressing to the BA Events Management course. There was no other Higher Education establishment I would rather attend. Gemma, our course leader, has eyes for details and keeps up to date with what is happening in the industry. She is surrounded by a solid team of lecturers, highly committed to our development. They challenge us to go above and beyond and are always one email away to support us on this path. And this is the beauty of Perth College UHI: we are a collective of students, but we are known by our names and treated as individuals.”
Sue Ralston – BA Childhood and Youth Studies
"A special mention to my amazing family, my husband Scott, my kids Liam and Olivia and my mum Caroline for giving me the strength to continue through the struggles. And my amazing student WhatsApp group for giving me the ongoing support and spurring me on to the finish line."
Jim Alexander - SCQF Level 10 Care Services, Leadership and Management
“I enjoyed the proof positive platform and Aida Grier my assessor was excellent”
Kaytie Black – BA (Hons) Art and Contemporary Practice
“Going through this course wasn’t just something I wanted to do, but it was also my coping mechanism. After my sister died in 2013, art was something which helped me to express myself and to this day still helps.
My mum, dad and partner were my biggest supports, as well as my lecturers who helped me to express this trauma in a poignant yet relatable manner.
I am now taking these skills, and my own experiences, and putting them to good use by working with kids coming out of the care system doing art for therapy. Art is my biggest support and I’d love others to be able to feel the same! “
