On the web.
What were you doing before you came to college?
Directly before college, I was working full time to boost my bank balance before my studies.
Why did you decide to pick this course?
Having worked in IT roles for many years, I wanted to get a broader base of knowledge to help improve/change path of my IT career.
What is your favourite thing about the course?
Learning new skills, and so far, it would be the lack of pressure compared to being employed in a highly technical role.
Has there been any standout/memorable moments from your course?
The standout for me is just how dedicated the computing staff are to the craft of instilling knowledge into their students.
What knowledge, skills and experience have you gained from your course that will help you when you leave Perth College UHI?
I think the HNC year has given me a good base to complete year 2 and then go on to complete my BSc. I have already learned things I did not know a great deal about, such as MySQL. I am also a student voice rep which allows myself and classmates to feedback information on our student journey.
Have you undertaken a placement or work experience whilst at Perth College UHI?
Not yet. I believe this will take place in year 3.
Have your lecturers been supportive during your studies?
Most definitely. I have on occasion dropped an email to a lecturer for help or clarification and always had a prompt and useful response.
Any other achievements you have gained on your journey?
I think a large part of the student journey is the ability to assimilate and use information quickly which I believe I am distilling as my time at UHI continues.
What do you like about the campus/facilities?
Everything that you need is close by. Library, study area, canteen, parking etc.
Have you enjoyed studying at Perth College UHI? Any highlights?
Yes, I most certainly have which is confirmed by the fact I’m still studying. As I mentioned before, the highlight for me are the lecturers.
Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of college?
I like to try and keep my body and mind from deteriorating. I spend time studying, jogging, doing callisthenics, lifting weights and I am a member of the Army reserves.
What are your future career plans?
Working in tech. I may end up moving location again, but I can’t say for sure as hybrid working is quite a big thing now in the tech space. There is also the possibly I may continue my education beyond BSc.
And finally, what advice would you give to someone thinking about studying at Perth College UHI?
Pick a subject you have some affinity for and enjoy your student journey.
