In this week’s blog, we meet computing student, Amber.

What is your name, and where are you from?

Amber Heron from Aberuthven.

What course are you studying at Perth College UHI, and what year are you currently in?

HNC in Computing.

How did you hear about Perth College UHI?

Through my guidance teachers in high school.

What were you doing before you came to college?

I was in 6th year and took an HNC in Social Science before changing to computing.

Why did you decide to pick this course?

I was interested in career opportunities, as well as developing technology to aid in people’s quality of life.

What is your favourite thing about the course?

I have really enjoyed learning Java.

Has there been any standout/memorable moments from your course?

Watching the self-driving car moral questions video in ethics, I never realised how serious programming ethics into a machine could be.

What knowledge, skills and experience have you gained from your course that will help you when you leave Perth College UHI?

Ethics and professionalism have given me good advice on how a computing environment works out in the real world.

Have your lecturers been supportive during your studies?

Absolutely.

What do you like about the campus/facilities?

The library is a better alternative to studying at home as there are fewer distractions.

Have you enjoyed studying at Perth College UHI? Any highlights?

So far, it’s been great. 🙂

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of college?

I enjoy playing video games semi competitively and I’m interested in cryptozoology.

What are your future career plans?

I'm looking into lecturing but would like to look into careers involving the implementation of AI.

Don’t worry about not knowing what you want in the future, focus on what you are passionate about and in time you'll know what you want further along the line.
