Natural at Home Beauty Treatments
Shona Hedley from our Beauty Therapy and Wellbeing department has put together some easy at home treatments that you can use to keep your skin and body in good condition.
OATMEAL SCRUB
You will need:
π₯£ One tablespoon of oatmeal
π₯£ A carrier oil β choose the type of oil best suited to your skin type OR
π₯£ Water or honey can also be used instead of a carrier oil.
Method
Mix the oatmeal with your chosen additional ingredient to form a smooth paste.
Application
πββοΈ Apply to neck and face and rub skin gently for two to three minutes.
πββοΈ Remove the excess with damp cotton wool, followed by hot mitts / facecloth.
πββοΈ Tone and moisturise.
NATURAL YOGHURT MASK
Natural yoghurt is full of protein, calcium, vitamin D and probiotics. It contains lactic acid, which is an alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA).
πΈ Helps to smooth and exfoliate skin.
πΈ Has antibacterial and antifungal properties.
πΈ Helps moisturise the skin, fights acne, prevents premature ageing, and relieves sunburn.
πΈ Good for keratosis pilaris.
Application
πΏ Apply with a mask brush to face and neck.
πΏ Leave for 10-15 minutes then remove with damp cotton wool, followed by hot mitts / facecloth.
πΏ Tone and moisturise.
ANTI CELLULITE COFFEE TREATMENT
The caffeine enhances fat metabolism and increases the circulation, thereby reducing cellulite.
βοΈ Mix warm used coffee grounds with coconut oil and rub onto skin in circular motions before rinsing.
Or
βοΈ Mix ground coffee with olive oil and an optional drop of essential oil rub onto skin in circular motions before rinsing.
COFFEE EYE MASK
To help reduce puffiness and dark circles. The caffeine is invigorating and the coconut oil nourishing.
βοΈ Mix coffee grounds with coconut oil.
βοΈ Mix to form a paste and apply mask under eyes.
βοΈ Leave for 20 minutes.
TO TREAT DRY SKIN
πBanana and Honey Mask π―
πΏ mash one banana with one tablespoon of honey and mix to form a paste.
πΏApply to face and leave for 10-15 minutes.
πΏ Remove and moisturise.
COCONUT COOLER β TO TREAT ECZEMA
π₯₯ Apply a thin layer of coconut oil onto the skin and leave. This helps cool eczema, itching and pain.
OATMEAL BOMB β TO TREAT ECZEMA
π₯£Add a cup of oatmeal to a piece of muslin and tie at the top.
π Place into bath water and relax and enjoy the soothing benefits.
OATMEAL DELIGHT β TO TREAT ECZEMA
π₯£ Mix a quarter cup of oatmeal with warm water to form a paste.
π₯₯ Then add one tablespoon of coconut oil and four drops of lavender, mix well.
π©β𦱠Apply to skin and leave for 10-15 minutes.
CUCUMBER SMOOTHIE - TO TREAT OILY INFLAMMED SKIN
π₯ Blend half the insides of a cucumber with one tablespoon of honey and one teaspoon of kaolin.
π§ Apply to area and leave for 10-15 minutes.
TO TREAT BRUISING
πΈ Apply either lavender or witch-hazel to a dry cotton pad and place over the bruise.
πΈ Then apply a bag of frozen peas (protected with a covering) or a flannel which has been placed into iced water onto the area.
πΈ Leave for 5-10 minutes to allow capillaries to vasoconstrict.
TO TREAT COUGHS, COLDS AND SORE THROATS
π₯ Add one drop of Tea Tree oil to a glass of warm water and gargle.
TO REMOVE DARK SPOTS FROM HANDS
This is also good for removing fake tan.
π Mix 5ml of mustard oil with a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice.
β Apply to hands and wash off after 10 minutes.
TO TREAT JOINT PAIN AND INFLAMMATION ASSOCIATED WITH ARTHRITIS
π§ββοΈ Massage area with mustard oil and leave the oil on the skin.
