Can you introduce yourself?

Alix Blair from Perth.

What course are you studying at UHI Perth, and what year are you currently in?

I study Level 6 Hairdressing after completing my Level 5 in June 2024

How did you hear about UHI Perth?

I heard about when I was in high school.

What were you doing before you came to UHI Perth?

I was working full time and thinking about what career path I wanted to take.

Why did you decide to pick this course?

I had always heard good things about the department and thought I should take the opportunity to learn something new.

What is your favourite thing about the course?

My favourite thing about the course is definitely the creative colour side.

Has there been any standout/memorable moments from your course?

The most memorable would be when I got the hang of doing hair-ups as I struggled for a while. That and the other students in the course, we all get along great and support each other whenever needed.

Have you created any haircuts or hair-ups that you have been really proud of?

What knowledge, skills and experience have you gained from your course that will help you when you leave UHI Perth?

When out on work experience, I learned how to keep myself busy and to maintain a hygienic workspace. I’ve also learned how to effectively communicate with clients and people in general during this course.

Have you undertaken a placement or work experience whilst at UHI Perth?

Work experience on this course year is still to come but during my level 5, I went out to work experience and came back with a lot of improvement.

Have your lecturers been supportive during your studies?

They have helped me on my worst days and made me believe in myself, they’ve supported me every step of the way.

Any other achievements you have gained on your journey?

I’ve completed multiple online courses such as Wella Education Colour Fresh Discovery and Wella Education Discover Shinefinity, which are products used in the UHI Perth salon.

What do you like about the campus/hairdressing facilities?

I like that the hairdressing facilities are neat and clean.

Have you enjoyed studying at UHI Perth?

I’ve really enjoyed studying here for the past few years

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of your studies?

I enjoy going out for long walks and singing as much as I can.

What are your future career plans?

I hope to work in a salon environment but eventually become self-employed.

And finally, what advice would you give to someone thinking about studying at UHI Perth?

Pick the hairdressing course because you can learn so much more than just cutting and styling hair!
