“Come and try all the different courses until you find the one for you. You never know where the journey might take you!”
After transitioning from school to college, Wiktoria is now excelling in both her academic and personal life. She had a chat with us to share her journey.
Can you introduce yourself?
My Name is Wiktoria Mucha, and I am from Blairgowrie.
What course are you studying at UHI Perth, and what year are you currently in?
I am currently studying NQ Business, Accounting and Administration. Last year, prior to my current course, I studied on the Next Steps 2 Learning course.
How did you hear about UHI Perth?
I heard about UHI Perth through Blairgowrie High School where I was a pupil. I choose to leave at the end of S5 to come to college to study in the Social and Vocational Studies department, where I studied for the first four years of my academic journey.
Why did you decide to pick this course?
I choose NQ Business Accounting and Administration because I was looking for a course that would help grow my confidence and self-esteem and to gain knowledge and skills to add to my CV to contribute to getting a job in the future.
What is your favourite thing about the course?
I get to meet new people and spend time with my friends.
Has there been any standout/memorable moments from your course?
Seeing my friends every day; and seeing my classmates become my friends and how close we are as a class; and knowing that I can ask for help, and someone will always be there for me no matter what.
Have you undertaken a placement or work experience whilst at UHI Perth?
On my previous Next Steps 2 Learning course, I undertook a six-week work placement at the college library. I also now have a job as Impact and Communication Coordinator with Perth and Kinross Disability Sport which started in July for twelve months.
Have your lecturers been supportive during your studies?
My lecturers have been incredibly supportive and support me every step of the way, as and when I need it.
Any other achievements you have gained on your journey?
One of my big achievements is getting out of my comfort zone studying at SVS right up to studying NQ Business Accounting and Administration and facing the differences and challenges that come along the way.
What do you like about the campus/facilities?
One thing that I really like about the campus are the quiet spaces, e.g. the quiet room in the student hub where I go every day to unwind and relax after a long day, or in between classes – I find it really helps me destress.
Have you enjoyed studying at UHI Perth? Any highlights?
I really enjoy studying at UHI Perth.
Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of your studies?
When I’m not studying, I focus on my biggest passion – wheelchair fencing, I’m a wheelchair fencer with Salle Ossian Fencing Club and have been since I started my journey in October 2021. I attend regional and national competitions where I have had numerous successes. I hope that one day I can make my biggest dream come true and extend my journey to international level. I have been recognised by UHI Perth for things I have achieved in my sport by receiving the British half blue award to highlight my national and regional success for which I’m incredibly grateful – THANK YOU!!
What are your future career plans?
I’m not really sure what I would like to do in the future, but I know for sure that I would like to continue pursuing my passion and showing others that no matter the challenges you face, with passion drive and determination you can achieve anything you want to!
I would also like to continue working in disability sport and helping children and young people find and grow their potential because you never know, you might find your biggest passion just like it has for me, and I want to help people find that for themselves
And finally, what advice would you give to someone thinking about studying at UHI Perth?
My advice to anyone considering studying at UHI Perth would be come and try all the different courses until you find the one for you. You never know where the journey might take you!
