What course did you study at UHI Perth?
Why did you decide to pick this course?
Aircraft Engineering, as the name sounds, is very fascinating. From childhood, watching an aircraft in the air from the ground gives a thrill and activates curiosity to adapt the dynamics of flying a metal bird! This engineering course ‘stands out of the box’ and develops specialist aircraft learning skills and knowledge compared to other engineering courses.
What were you doing before you came to UHI Perth?
I was a fresh graduate with Higher National Diploma (HND) in Aerospace Engineering from Indian Institute.
Can you tell us where you work now and what does your job entail?
Manager – Quality (MRO) - at THALES Group
I am an experienced aviation quality engineer with more than ten years in the industry comprising of Airlines, Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) and Engineering training domains. I have a comprehensive knowledge of aviation regulations (EASA/FAA/DGCA) and protocols so that every project remains in compliance. I’ve developed excellent auditing skills to determine where sources of problems are located.
What are your key milestones from graduation to now?
I’ve been promoted four times in my career and gained exposure and experience by working in the airline engineering quality, MRO Quality and OEM Quality environment within well-established organizations such as GMR Aero Technic Limited, TATA Singapore Airlines Limited (Vistara), Air India Limited and THALES Group.
What are your future aspirations?
To be part of OEM (Airbus / Boeing) Team.
How did your course at UHI help you to get where you are?
It was one of the best courses that introduced me with the practical aspects and concepts of aviation industry. Additionally, the course has teaching elements which are directly linked and are used during your actual life in industry.
Best thing about studying at UHI?
Gaining self-dependent, practical skill development and exposure to advanced learning. On a personal level, staying away from family for years makes you robust, emotionally grow, and provides life experience as an individual.
What did you like about the Aircraft Engineering facilities on the UHI Perth campus?
Practical experience and synchronising real industry components in the campus helps to build your knowledge and concepts. Also, the UHI lecturers have worked hands-on in the aviation maintenance industry and have the necessary skills and experience.
Were your lecturers supportive during your time at UHI Perth?
Yes, very much. The lecturers during my course journey were the ‘best of the best’ in terms of imparting knowledge and skills. Additionally, they were very helpful to boost your morale and in students’ personal lives as well.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about studying Aircraft Engineering at UHI Perth?
If someone is passionate and has a zeal for learning to develop engineering skills, UHI Perth is the campus for you. The Aircraft Engineering course is really a masterpiece of Engineering education and has standalone respect along with recognition from other engineering programmes.
